Building Controls / Mechanical Technician

Our Mechanical Services, Plant and Site Maintenance Groups fulfil critical roles in ensuring that essential equipment is maintained, including water, air and nuclear ventilation systems. We currently are looking to recruit an experienced Technician who will be responsible for TRIUMF's building mechanical system's controls hardware and software, creating and modifying control sequences, and troubleshooting.   • Develop and implement controls sequencing of building automation controls
  • Provide integration and programming of networked building management systems
  • Analyze and resolve HVAC operating and design problems, monitor the systems for energy conservation opportunities, and conduct preventative maintenance, repair and operation of the systems
  • Manage maintenance data and equipment records, and maintain Calibration and Inspection Index and Plant Database
  • Consult on the feasibility and practicality of mechanical design, adaption and modification of equipment/devices, and on projects for feasibility of installation, reliability and maintenance
  • Respond to DDC alarms
  • Initiate projects that will enhance operation and/or functionality, and commission mechanical systems
  • Be trained on-site and certified as a TRIUMF Nuclear Energy Worker (NEW).

Being effective in this role will require you to have the following abilities, skills, knowledge and training:

  • A complete understanding of Building Controls Systems, BacNet, and the ability to adapt these skills to work effectively with TRIUMF's existing infrastructure
  • A practical knowledge of HVAC systems and associated DDC's
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively both individually and as a member of a team
  • A proactive self-starter with service focus
  • A Mechanical Technology or Building Controls & Energy Management diploma from a technical institute or equivalent
  • At least 5 years of practical, relevant, and specialized experience with DDC control strategies and programming solutions
  • Demonstrated, hands on skills with Delta Controls hardware, ORCA view, and GCL programming is a definite asset
