Accounting Clerk - Support Services

We are currently looking to hire a proactive, detail oriented individual who will join our accounting team and take on a clerical role providing accounting support services for the day-to-day accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general accounting functions within the Accounting Office. The scope of the position involves routine clerical tasks requiring knowledge of basic accounting, GST/PST applications and interpretation of authorization policies.

Here is a sample of the job duties you will be assigned:

  • Open, code and distribute invoices for authorization received in mail or by email.
  • Scan invoices for upload to Accounts Payable workflow using invoice registration module
  • Review invoices and travel reimbursements and process claims for payment
  • Determine GST/PST tax codes, eligibility and authorizations stipulations; Resolve discrepancies and respond enquiries.
  • Perform reconciliations and investigate variances.
  • Process cheque runs, generate bank wires and drafts, distribute cheques.
  • Process fund transfers, and maintain petty cash
  • Maintain files for payables, receivables and other accounting records. Generate periodic reports.
  • Assist accounts receivable in generating customer invoices and following up on outstanding payments.

Here is what you will offer TRIUMF:

  • Minimum high school graduation with certificate in accounting/office procedures and three years relevant experience preferably in clerical accounting, or the equivalent combination of education and experience
  • General understanding of basic accounting principles
  • Proactive, self-starter with a strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Effective oral and written communication, interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Ability to prioritize own work, and to work under pressure to meet deadlines
  • Ability to work as an effective team member
  • Familiar with working in a computerized environment, preferably MS Office or Office 365 with working knowledge of spreadsheet and word processing applications
  • Previous experience or familiarity working with ERP software would be considered an asset
  • Legally able to work in Canada on a permanent basis (Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident)
