Electromechanical Technician

TRIUMF, Canada's National Research Laboratory for Particle and Nuclear Physics, is one of the leading accelerator centers worldwide exploring the structure of matter with a variety of accelerated particle beams. An exciting 12 month contract opportunity currently exists within our Electrostatic Beamlines Group for a Junior to Intermediate level Electromechanical Technician who will primarily assist in the assembly and installation of beam line components for our ARIEL project, and with installation, testing and maintenance of an electron gun.

Specific responsibilities will include:

  • Preparation, assembly and installation of beam line components
  • Installation, testing and maintenance of the electron gun
  • Servicing electrostatic beamlines components
  • Services the stable ion sources components
  • General technical support for experiments

Knowledge and skills required:

  • a basic understanding of mechanical engineering technology
  • a basic understanding of beam line components, electrical safety, vacuum and water systems
  • an ability to understand technical drawings
  • familiarity with the principles of radiation safety
  • ideally some knowledge of industrial electronics, including hands-on skill, and familiarity with high voltage equipment and associated hazards
  • a basic knowledge or familiarity with vacuum technology and specialized vacuum equipment.
  • attention to detail for precision work
  • good communication and the ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • the position requires that the incumbent take the TRIUMF in-house radiation training course in order to be designated as a Nuclear Energy Worker.

Qualifications Minimum qualifications include a relevant diploma from a technical college or institution such as BCIT and at least 3 years relevant experience with hands-on electro-mechanical work. Applicants must be legally able to work in Canada as a Citizen or Permanent Resident.

This 12 month contract offers:

  • 2 weeks vacation plus time off between Christmas and New Years
  • Excellent dental, extended health, and vision care benefits
  • a 37.5hr work week
  • a junior to intermediate starting salary range between $42k to $53k per year
