Mechanical Piping Designer - TERM

TRIUMF is an exciting place to work and if you are interested in joining our amazing team, we have an immediate opportunity for a temporary Mechanical Piping Designer to join our Vacuum and Cryogenics Group. This group handles the entire process of creating and maintaining vacuum, including design, installation, maintenance, and repair.

This temporary position will be a good match for you if you are a highly motivated, effective team player with a can-do attitude who thrives in a fast paced multi-disciplinary environment. Your main focus will be providing mechanical design services for the development and installation of TRIUMFs helium cryogenic plant and associated equipment. Your role will include developing conceptual, preliminary and construction type drawings, and interfacing with project managers and engineers, and other designers, on various multi-disciplined projects. Youll also; prepare and develop preliminary layouts, 3D models and piping drawings for liquid nitrogen and He cryogenic systems, review drawings to ensure that guidelines and drafting standards have been met and revise where necessary and document. You will be expected to interface effectively with project engineers, other designers, vendors, procurement staff, and various others in this dynamic team setting and youll be preparing progress reports and performing designer and checker duties on projects.

To be considered for this opportunity you will need; a diploma in Mechanical Technology or the equivalent, and at least 5 years of relevant industry experience which includes 2 years of piping & instrumentation diagram experience, specifically 2D and 3D piping layout design, ideally in the refrigeration/cryogenic field.

Your skill set will include sound technical knowledge in the area of mechanical piping design, the ability to create economic and functional designs, and prepare and maintain shop drawings and other documentation. Good problem solving skills are required in order to resolve complex design problems and knowledge of Process Piping Code, SolidWorks 3D modelling software, product data management, geometric dimensioning and tolerancing, and materials and processes. You will have strong organizational abilities, good interpersonal skills and excellent written and verbal communication skills. Complementing your technical skills, you are an effective team player comfortable in thinking independently and exercising initiative.
