Project Manager/Engineer

At TRIUMF, Canada's national laboratory for particle and nuclear physics, it is an exciting time with a number of new and ongoing high profile design and construction projects underway. To support our project portfolio, an immediate opportunity exists within our Engineering Division for the right individual. This is a dynamic and friendly environment that will suit an organized, self-directed Project Engineer who has plenty of team spirit, is a forward thinker, and who has the ability to build effective relationships and lead.

This is a "hands-on" leadership role in a fast-paced setting, requiring you to interact daily with project team members (including physicists, designers, and engineers) to make plans, decisions, and solve problems. You will be adept at overseeing multiple projects, and will have overall responsibility for planning, scheduling, and coordination of the engineering design, components procurement, manufacture, assembly, installation, and commissioning of assigned projects. In addition you will be called upon to chair project meetings and to keep team efforts aligned. Unique to this position is the opportunity to assist a senior team in developing a resource analysis for TRIUMFs next Five-Year Plan.

Your specific responsibilities will include:

  • Providing input to project plans and maintaining/updating project management documents.
  • Analyzing resource requirements for multiple projects within a common program & identifying gaps.
  • Initiating a planning and engagement process with key stakeholders to develop and maintain a resource analysis with a five-year time horizon.
  • Developing and documenting design concepts and engineering requirements, including design coordination with other disciplines.
  • Directing mechanical designers and technologists for design and assembly work.
  • Coordinating procurement and manufacturing
  • Coordinating and supervising installation.

You will need:

  • At least five years professional experience (preferably in an R&D environment) and at least 3 years experience with project management, program development, and resource estimation.
  • Demonstrated experience with system engineering in a highly multidisciplinary environment.
  • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Project, SolidWorks and have proven technical documentation skills.
  • Strong problem solving skills, sound engineering judgment, attention to detail, and prioritization.
  • Self direction and strong interpersonal skills.
  • A proven track record of teamwork and leadership, supported with excellent communication skills
  • A minimum BSc in engineering physics, or mechanical/electrical engineering
  • Eligibility for registration as a Professional Engineer in the province of British Columbia
  • To be legally able to work in Canada; a permanent resident or Canadian Citizen
