Scientific Programmer Analyst

TRIUMF, Canada's national research laboratory for particle and nuclear physics, is currently accepting applications for a Scientific Programmer Analyst who will join one of our high profile experimental groups, T2K.

The T2K experiment is a long-baseline neutrino oscillation experiment between the Japan Proton Accelerator Research Complex (J-PARC) and the Super-Kamiokande detector. The goal of T2K is to study neutrino oscillations, and data-taking is underway. The Canadian T2K group was involved in the design and construction of the near detector and maintains the web site and various databases for the whole international collaboration.

The Programmer/Analyst will be expected to design, analyze, implement, upgrade and maintain software and databases, and to provide suitable software applications with quality documentation and assistance to users. In addition, he/she will have the responsibility of managing a Linux computer cluster, as well as supporting large-scale computing efforts.

The successful applicant will have experience in developing software applications, and possess knowledge and significant experience with C/C++ as well as with an SQL database system. Familiarity with PERL and PYTHON scripting languages and/or the principles, usage and management of the Linux operating system will be considered an asset, as would knowledge of large-scale/grid computing. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, good listening and comprehension skills, and flexibility to deal with changing priorities are all required, as is the ability to work in a team environment. Proven initiative, and good documentation skills are also a must. Minimum qualifications for the position include a BSc in computer science, engineering or physics, with demonstrated knowledge of database and web systems.

This grant funded position is initially for a one year term, with possible renewal for a second year and beyond, based on budgetary confirmation and mutual agreement.
