Competition # 239

Research Scientist - Theory

Located on the south campus of the University of British Columbia, TRIUMF is Canada's national laboratory for particle and nuclear physics. We are currently seeking a Research Scientist who will join our Theory Group and become actively involved in the targeted fields of theoretical low energy nuclear physics and related areas of nuclear astrophysics.

The TRIUMF Theory Group provides guidance and support to the TRIUMF experimental program and is a center of activity for the broader Canadian subatomic theory community. The research interests include nuclear theory, nuclear astrophysics, many-body theory, fundamental symmetries, particle phenomenology, neutrino physics and lattice gauge theory. TRIUMF's world-leading rare-isotope facility, ISAC, attracts 500 experimental faculty, postdoctoral researchers and students annually. This provides an excellent opportunity for interactions with the national and international nuclear experimental community.

The successful candidate will have a PhD in theoretical physics with related postdoctoral or faculty experience, and be capable of carrying out a strong independent research program. Strong leadership and mentoring skills are required as he/she will also be expected to supervise Postdoctoral Research Fellows and graduate students, to take an active role in the organization of workshops, and to participate in activities that connect the Theory Group to the overall TRIUMF research program.

This is a full-time research position considered equivalent to a faculty position at a Canadian university, with eligibility to apply for NSERC peer reviewed funding. Adjunct professor status, teaching courses and supervising graduate students are possible and can be arranged through TRIUMF's affiliated universities. Salary will be commensurate with education and depth of experience, and an excellent benefit package is available. The position is open to all qualified applicants, and in the case of equal qualifications, preference may be given to a Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident.

Interested individuals are invited to submit an application, which includes a cover letter, CV, list of publications, and a brief description of past research and future plans. Applicants must also arrange to have three letters of recommendation submitted before the application deadline. All correspondence should be forwarded as follows, and must include the competition number.

TRIUMF is an equal opportunity employer committed to diversity in the workplace, and we welcome applications from all qualified candidates. Your complete application package should be submitted by email to recruiting@triumf.ca and will include the following in one complete PDF file:
