Competition # 209

Research Scientist - Theory

TRIUMF, Canada's National Laboratory for Particle and Nuclear Physics, is currently accepting applications for a Research Scientist who will join our Theory Group. The targeted areas are theoretical nuclear physics and nuclear astrophysics.

The TRIUMF Theory Group has 5 staff scientists and 8 research associates. The group provides guidance and support to the TRIUMF experimental program and is a theoretical center of activity for the broader Canadian subatomic theory community. The research interests include nuclear theory, nuclear astrophysics, many-body theory, fundamental symmetries, particle phenomenology, neutrino physics and lattice gauge theory. TRIUMF's world-leading rare-isotope facility, ISAC, attracts 500 experimental faculty, postdoctoral researchers and students annually. This provides an excellent opportunity for interactions with the national and international experimental community.

The successful candidate should have a PhD in theoretical physics, related postdoctoral or faculty experience, and be capable of initiating a strong independent research program. Good leadership skills are required as he/she will also be expected to supervise research associates and students, to take an active role in the organization of workshops and schools, and to participate in activities that connect the Theory Group to the overall TRIUMF research program.

This is a full-time research position leading to a continuing appointment. The position is considered equivalent to a junior faculty position at a Canadian university, including eligibility to apply for NSERC peer-reviewed funding. TRIUMF encourages associations with the affiliated universities, where adjunct professor status, supervision of graduate students, and limited teaching is possible. The position is open to all qualified applicants. In case of equal qualifications, preference may be given to a Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident.

TRIUMF offers a competitive compensation and benefits package. Qualified individuals are invited to submit an application, which includes a cover letter, CV, list of publications, and a brief description of past research and future plans. Applicants must also arrange to have three letters of recommendation submitted before the application deadline.

TRIUMF is an equal opportunity employer committed to diversity in the workplace, and we welcome applications from all qualified candidates. Your complete application package should be submitted by email to recruiting@triumf.ca and will include the following in one complete PDF file:

Applications will be accepted until 2008-12-01
