Competition # 156

Research Scientist - Theory

TRIUMF, Canada's National Laboratory for Particle and Nuclear Physics, is currently accepting applications for a Research Scientist who will join our Theory Group. The targeted area is theoretical high-energy physics, with a focus on theory and phenomenology relevant to physics at the Large Hadron Collider.

Currently, the TRIUMF Theory Group has 4 staff scientists and 7-8 research associates. Its interests include particle physics phenomenology, neutrino physics, lattice gauge theory, nuclear theory and nuclear astrophysics. TRIUMF scientists participate in particle physics experiments, with T2K and the ATLAS experiment at the LHC being the current priorities. TRIUMF is the site of Canadas Tier 1 ATLAS Data Analysis Centre. The growing TRIUMF ATLAS group provides an excellent opportunity for interactions with the experimental community.

The successful candidate must have a PhD in theoretical physics, related postdoctoral or faculty experience, an excellent international reputation, and must demonstrate the potential for scientific leadership. In addition to carrying out a vigorous research program, the candidate is expected to supervise research associates and participate in activities which connect the Theory Group to the overall TRIUMF research program.

This is a full-time research position leading to a continuing appointment. The position is considered equivalent to a junior faculty position at a Canadian university, including eligibility to apply for NSERC peer-reviewed funding. Adjunct professor status, supervision of graduate students, and limited teaching can be arranged through TRIUMFs affiliated universities. Please note the position is open to all qualified applicants, and in the case of equal qualifications, preference may be given to a Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident.

TRIUMF offers a competitive compensation and benefits package. All applications must include a cover letter (with competition number), a CV, a list of publications, and a brief description of past research and future plans. Applicants must also arrange to have four letters of recommendation submitted before the application deadline.

TRIUMF is an equal opportunity employer committed to diversity in the workplace, and we welcome applications from all qualified candidates. Your complete application package should be submitted by email to recruiting@triumf.ca and will include the following in one complete PDF file:

Applications will be accepted until 2007-10-31
