Competition # 100

Research Scientist (Theoretical Physics)

TRIUMF, Canada's national research facility for particle and nuclear physics, is seeking candidates for a Research Scientist position in the Theory Group with anticipated starting date of spring 2007. The preferred target area is theoretical nuclear physics or nuclear astrophysics, but outstanding candidates in other areas of subatomic theory will be considered.

The successful candidate must have a PhD in theoretical physics, related postdoctoral or faculty experience, an excellent international reputation, and must demonstrate the potential for scientific leadership. In addition to carrying out a vigorous research program, he/she will be expected to supervise postdocs and participate in activities which connect the Theory Group to the overall TRIUMF research program. Currently, the TRIUMF Theory Group has 5 staff scientists, 7-8 postdoctoral research associates, and the research interests include effective field theory, many-body theory, nuclear structure and reactions, lattice QCD, particle phenomenology, nuclear astrophysics and neutrino physics.

This is a full-time research position leading to a continuing appointment and is considered to be equivalent to a faculty position at a Canadian university, including eligibility to apply for NSERC peer-reviewed funding. Adjunct professor status, supervising graduate students and teaching, can be arranged through TRIUMF's affiliated universities. Please note the position is open to all qualified applicants, and in the case of equal qualifications, preference may be given to a Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident. Consideration of applications will begin September 15, 2006 and will continue until the position is filled.

TRIUMF offers a competitive compensation and benefits package. Qualified individuals are invited to submit an application, which includes a cover letter (with competition number), a curriculum vitae, a list of publications, a brief description of past research and future plans, and arrange for four letters of recommendation.

TRIUMF is an equal opportunity employer committed to diversity in the workplace, and we welcome applications from all qualified candidates. Your complete application package should be submitted by email to recruiting@triumf.ca and will include the following in one complete PDF file:
