Position Title:

Cryogenic detector testing assistent

SuperCDMS 

Overview:

The SuperCDMS group at TRIUMF is setting up a new test facility for cryogenic detectors. Over the next half year the facility will be commissioned and first detector tests will be performed. Part of the goal of the work in this first period is the development of new calibration methods for very low energies.

Duties:

The successful candidate will help with all aspects of the work related to the project. This includes assembling parts for the different test setups that will be mounted inside the cryostat for testing, mounting inside the facility, operating the facility and taking data. We may also have to develop new pieces of software for monitoring and control which will in part be done by the candidate. Finally, the candidate will also contribute to the analysis of the data acquired.

Skills learned during this work experience:

Cryogenic sample preparation; operation of cryogenic and vacuum systems; appropriate use of cleanrooms; particle detector calibration and operation; data analysis; potentially software development.

Qualifications:

We are looking for a physics student in year 2 or higher. Prior work experience in a scientific environment would be an asset but is not required. The candidate must be willing and able to help with hands-on work in the lab. Computer programming skills may be useful, but are not a prerequisite for consideration of the candidate.

Salary is commensurate with academic progress and previous relevant work experience, and ranges from $ 2080 to $ 2800 per month plus 4% vacation pay.
TRIUMF pays round-trip airfare (this does not apply to Vancouver/Victoria students); for Vancouver Island students, TRIUMF will pay ferry costs.
