Position Title:High Level Application Developer
Name of Project:TITAN Beam Envelope Development
Overview:TRIUMF is Canada's national laboratory for particle and nuclear physics, a key player in the investigation of rare, unstable atomic nuclei. Methods and techniques used at the facility help solve fundamental questions ranging from supernovae to medical treatments for cancer.Web-based High-Level Applications (HLAs) are being developed at TRIUMF, to enable efficient beam delivery to experiments. These applications enable operators, experimenters, beam physicists and members of the beam delivery group to evaluate and diagnose rare-isotope beam tunes to experimental stations. TITAN, TRIUMF's Ion Trap for Atomic and Nuclear Science, is being added to the HLA framework. This project aims to continue development of key HLAs to incorporate elements of the TITAN experiment and its beamlines. Once completed, the student will assist in training operators and TITAN experimenters alike, to the use of the extended applications.
Duties:Complete the XML-database description of the TITAN beamline to allow the use of all our applications.Supervise beta-testing Receive feedback from users and improve the app based on it Train operators and TITAN group to use the app(s)
Skills learned during this work experience:Acquire background in beam optics and accelerator physics.Gain experience with web application development. Coordinate a project between 3 groups (TITAN, beam physics, operations). Possibilities for a conference paper or citations anticipated.
Qualifications:This project involves both programming for app development, in addition to requiring a physics background to understand the beam physics & delivery concepts. As such, an undergraduate with at least one year's worth of experience in fields related to Physics or Engineering is preferred.
