Overview:

The smallest cyclotron at TRIUMF produces medical PET isotopes which are used by the BC Cancer Agency and the Parkinson Research Center in the diagnosis of patients and to better understand the disease. In our group we strive to improve how we make the isotopes to produce them more efficiently. We also are interested in new ways of producing established isotopes and exploring the production of new isotopes.

Duties:

The successful candidate will assist in target research, including commissioning, testing and characterizing of a prototype of a new target design. If the design is successful he/she will be involved in publishing the results.

Skills learned during this work experience:

Basic knowledge in medical physics will we acquired. Mechanical skills, drawing skills, electronic skills, design skills, and project management skills will be improved or learned.

Qualifications:

The successful candidate must have a background in physics, chemistry or engineering physics. Experience in mechanical assembly and with a drawing program like solid works are considered an asset.

Salary is commensurate with academic progress and previous relevant work experience, and ranges from $ 2080 to $ 2800 per month plus 4% vacation pay.
TRIUMF pays round-trip airfare (this does not apply to Vancouver/Victoria students); for Vancouver Island students, TRIUMF will pay ferry costs.
