ATG/Nordion/Life Sciences electric power distribution analysis

ATG/Nordion/Life Sciences Facility Arc flash hazard assessment 

Overview:

TRIUMF has partnered with the privately owned company, Nordion, to develop and distribute medical isotopes and radiopharmaceuticals for national and international clients. This collaborative effort enables Nordion, a leading global provider to deliver over 2 million patient doses every year.
TRIUMF’s Applied Technology Group (ATG) is responsible for operating, maintaining and developing three cyclotrons: one CP42 and two TR-30s. All three cyclotrons are operated 24/7, 365 days on the principles of “just-in-time manufacturing”, and are located in the Radio Chemistry Annex (RCA) at TRIUMF. ATG engineering staff is responsible with maintenance and repair of the cyclotrons systems,RCA building services as well as improvements and design of highly specialized equipment. Some of the Life Sciences Division Laboratories are also part of the RCA facility. Due to the nature of the work and to maintain the required continuous operation an arc flash hazard assessment is necessary to increase electrical work safety.

Duties:

The student will collect all the necessary data for all relevant switchgear, switchboards, motor control centers and panels, distribution transformers, UPS, motors and generators, will produce updated electrical drawings and be part of the arc flash hazard analysis team.

- Electrical power distribution in a 24/7, 365 days facility
- Critical loads and electric emergency power
- Drafting one-line electrical drawings
- Medical isotopes production

Qualifications:

Third or fourth year Electrical Engineering Program. The candidate should have some electric power distribution experience. Experience using CAD software (ideally DraftSight) would be an asset.

May - Aug 2018 with possible 4-month extension  
Salary is commensurate with academic progress and previous relevant work experience, and ranges from $ 2080 to $ 2800 per month plus 4% vacation pay.
TRIUMF pays round-trip airfare (this does not apply to Vancouver/Victoria students); for Vancouver Island students, TRIUMF will pay ferry costs.
