Position Title:Gamma-Ray Spectroscopy at ISAC
Name of Project:GRIFFIN
Overview:The gamma-ray spectroscopy at ISAC group operates the state-of-the-art gamma-ray spectrometer (GRIFFIN) for experiments in nuclear physics. The array consists of a set of 16 High-purity Germanium Clover detectors and a fully digital data acquisition system. The student will have the opportunity to assist in the operation, maintenance, setup and characterization of the spectrometer components as well as analyze experimental data.
Duties:Testing HPGe detectors, analysis of experimental data, investigation and development of data acquisition performance, mechanical assembly of electronics components, acceptance testing of electronics, assembling and testing vacuum components, assembling and testing of mechanical components
Skills learned during this work experience:basic laboratory skills, gamma-ray spectroscopy, nuclear structure, data analysis, c++ programming
Qualifications:Must have completed first year physics classes. Must enjoy hand-ons work in a laboratory setting. Some c++ programming experience an asset.
Period of work:May to August 2018 with possible 4-month extension
Salary is commensurate with academic progress and previous relevant work experience, and
ranges from $ 2080 to $ 2800 per month plus 4% vacation pay. |
