Name of Project:Gamma-Ray Spectroscopy at ISAC
Overview:Our group studies the behaviour of exotic, short-lived, artificially produced isotopes. For these experiments, we maintain two state-of-the-art gamma-ray detector array, TIGRESS (TRIUMF-ISAC Gamma-Ray Escape Suppressed Spectrometer) and GRIFFIN (Gamma-Ray Infrastructure For Fundamental Investigations of Nuclei). They consist of commercial, custom-built semiconductor and inorganic scintillator gamma-ray detectors. This equipment requires frequent reconfiguration, preventative maintenance and repair for efficient operation. Two major upgrades are envisioned during the work term: 1) Installation of background suppression shields on GRIFFIN, and 2) moving TIGRESS to in front of EMMA (the ElectroMagnetic Mass Analyzer)
Duties:The general duty of the candidate shall be to assist in upgrades to GRIFFIN in TIGRESS. In particular the candidate shall participate in the assembly, installation, and end-to-end testing of cables for these upgrades. For TIGRESS this will also involve installation of cable trays.
