Position Title:Gamma-Ray Spectroscopy at ISAC | ||

Overview:The gamma-ray spectroscopy at ISAC group operates the state-of-the-art gamma-ray spectrometer (GRIFFIN) for experiments in nuclear physics. The array consists of a set of 16 Hyper-pure Germanium Clover detectors and a fully digital data acquisition system. The student will have the opportunity to assist in the maintenance, setup and characterization of the spectrometer components as well as analyze experimental data. | ||
Duties:Testing HPGe detectors, analysis of experimental data, investigation and development of data acquisition performance, mechanical assembly of electronics components, acceptance testing of electronics, assembling and testing vacuum components, assembling and testing of mechanical components | ||
Skills learned during this work experience:basic laboratory skills, gamma-ray spectroscopy, nuclear structure, data analysis, c++ programming | ||
Qualifications:Must have completed first year physics classes. Must enjoy hand-ons work in a laboratory setting. Some c++ programming experience an asset. | ||

Period of work:Sept to Dec 2017 with possible 4-month extension | ||
Salary is commensurate with academic progress and previous relevant work experience, and
ranges from $ 2080 to $ 2800 per month plus 4% vacation pay. TRIUMF pays round-trip airfare (this does not apply to Vancouver/Victoria students); for Vancouver Island students, TRIUMF will pay ferry costs.
