Position Title:Superconducting Acceleration Cavity Development for TRIUMF eLinac project
Name of Project:TRIUMF Superconducting eLINAC
Overview:TRIUMF eLINAC (superconducting accelerator for electrons) project requires development of new 9 cell elliptical ILC/TESLA cavity at frequency 1.3GHz capable to provide 10MV acceleration voltage for 10mA beam current. TRIUMF is doing R&D for the cavity design, fabrication and tests.
Duties:Participating in cavity rf tuning and superconducting rf tests. Assistance for superconducting cavities test preparation including chemical etching, high pressure rinsing, assembling. RF measurements. Computer simulations.
Skills learned during this work experience:Mechanical assembly. Vacuum, chemical etching, cryogenics technology. RF and SRF measurements. Computer simulations. Labview programming for rf measurements.
Qualifications:Student after 3 university terms for Electrical Engineering/Mechanical/Physics engineering. It will require some experience with mechanical and electronics assembly and Solidworks experience.
Period of work:Sep - Dec 2012 with possible 4-month extension
|Salary is commensurate with academic progress and previous relevant work experience,
and ranges from $ 1810 to $ 2710 per month plus 4% vacation pay.
TRIUMF pays return air fare (this does not apply to Vancouver/Victoria students);
for Vancouver Island students, TRIUMF will pay ferry costs.
